I was recently asked to peek over a reasonably admired site because an example of the functions necessary to build a new customer’s website and because it was the employment function that I am being asked to mimic, out of interest I looked because of the IT vacancies. Well, I do run my own southport website design and you never know what freelance opportunities I might have spotted!
Well, I was amazed. Aside from one person who was advertising a ready built site, which I could not understand in a jobs listing, most of the web design adverts were similar, although all from different towns in the region. various gave the same offer, which usually went along the lines of “I have a limited budget and this project should be ideal to enhance your portfolio.”
Yes, for web designers who are beginning up this is true, but it is also true that it is far easier only to knock together various sample sites to show to prospective customers. Better still, put together samples that are relevant to the potential customers.
One advert went the step further and said that the site would be an good opportunity to locate involved in a new upcoming website that might challenge facebook and youtube.
I doubt it. If the person putting the proposal together can do nothing other than advertise for a coder for free, then the project is going nowhere. At the fantastically least, if you have a wonderful idea then you would be able to get funding from somewhere. Being dependent on the web designer working for free to build their portfolio or as a part share in the company isn’t a magnificent commencing point.
For a start, it’s asking for an inexperienced designer. Second, it shows an absolute lack of know-how of business and taking a business forward by means of marketing. Sadly, it’s an idea that is bound to fail. Putting together a social networking site with loads of features isn’t the same since developing something that people are going to use. I’ve had a lot of prospective customers ask me if it is possible. Not one has had any idea how they are going to start driving people onto the website.
And with established social networking sites already doing so well, where is the room on the promote for a brand new one, on absolutely no budget? There may be room for one with a clever new approach, but not one without any proper marketing plan.
I’ve had people phoning me up at my website design formby and make me such wonderful offers. But, for the reason that with countless established website designers, this isn’t an bestow that makes any sense to me.
